Weckls Dvd's.

Carl fisher publishing are listing weckls previous "How to" series Dvds to be released in july.
On daves site he mentioned EXTRA footage to be on these.

I need to get the "Developing your OWN sound" on VHS(ive already seen Practice/Technique)

mmmmmmmm I just don't know most of the material on the "celebrity instructional vids" is abit recycled except for "HTDT", besides half of the video is Dave playing with the band not actual tutorial which is what they SHOULD focus on..(*hints* a proper book-not play-along wouldn't hurt, are u digging?)

besides Weckl's personality is as stiff as his latin feel....did I just say that out loud [img]eek.gif[/img] (it's my personal opinion and many others would agree)*watches user ratin go down* [img]graemlins/devil.gif[/img] , I was talking to 5/8 about this too, I really don't like to go into the cliches Weckl vs. Colaiuta, but after watching the A Custom Promo Tape, JESUS CHRIST!!!!! Vinnie seems like the nicest guy ive seen!, the smile he cracks when he mentions The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and Zildjians "advancements" in regards to the their lines just brings joy to my face.....and his personality is very uplifting, he seems very passionate about the product whereas other "signature artists" seemed heckled from what ive seen....

Weckl: [with EXTREMELY bored look] "Well let's start by practicing why I call unisons, hi hat plays quarter notes...YADA YADA"

I'm just waiting for pete erskines to be re-released. (a new one would be cool too).

I must agree Bozzio, Dave does have a "How much longer has this tape gotta go on for" monotone sound to his voice. He still puts the Info across well though.

I agree with Bozzio that Weckl is stiff looking and monotone sounding. But who cares? He is no hot girl so that you put his poster in your bedroom. Maybe you need to sometimes when everybody's after you.
I once made a mistake to ask Vinnie: How are you Mr. Colaiuta? Much better when I get some coffee!!! [img]graemlins/grrr.gif[/img] That was 15 minutes before he stopped drumming during a Patitucci gig in Amsterdam and start yelling at John Beasley in front of the audience with f... this and f... that. [img]mad.gif[/img] Mmmmmmmmm nice guy? Probably yes, especially on a Zildjian promo video, but as someone said in a post, sometimes you need a little anger.
And contrary to that story I had a nice experience after a concert of Mike Stern in a large setting a couple of years ago with Weckl. Weckl was kind enough to come back to the stage. We asked him a lot of drummersquestions and he asked for a pair of sticks and a practice pad somebody had. 45 minutes later he said goodbye when the tourmanager asked him to come and we all had a free drumlesson. He asked the 10 of us individually to show our hands and he gave advice. Pretty cool for someone who is stiff. Only his haircut still sucks. [img]eek.gif[/img]

Is the "Developing Your Own Sound" video, the one where Dave Weckl talks about drum tuning? If it is, did people find his drum tuning techniques helpful?

As long as dave and vinnie keep playing i dont care what their attitude is, once they get off the kit. I've no expectation of what they should BE.... or act like.
They're like the rest off us, they have good and bad days, jet lag dont help none either but there ya go, thats life.

Bozzio, i think the Idea of daves later video (practicing)was to show the techniques he described in action, hence the band clips. Like steve smiths dvd?
(probably a way to promote his band as well but thats what i understood from it).
Hoping the extra material he's including on the new releases make it worth buying on another format.

Seems like Roberto had a better experience with Mr.C : "Ok Guys, I've just witnessed one of the best experiences I had in my life.
On friday and saturday I've got the chance to act as a drumtech and assistant to Mr. Vinnie Colaiuta. He was in Rome to play two gigs and a clinic with Abe Laboriel, Tom Brooks and Paul Jackson Jr. They played two fusion gigs with Vinnie really burning on the second night. I've made the setup and the tuning of his drums and I saw him playing right behind him and I just can't tell you what kind of emotion I had and what kind of stuff I saw, both on the gigs and during the clinic. Vinnie is simply the best drummer alive and the best person on the planet. That's why He's so great and the reason why peolple loves him so much. Thanks Vinnie for these unbelievable emotions."

Back to the Weckl DVDs. Anyone know if there's any special features such as mixed clinic footage [img]graemlins/film.gif[/img] and stuff like that??? I know the old Gadd vids, now on dvd have some bonus stuff on 'em.

These are carl fischer items eaglebeat, the others are warner bros. I haven't seen anything apart from on daves site where he said.... there'll be extra footage on the dvds. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Seems like Weckl's "How to Practice" vid shoulda been called "what to practice." The concept would have been way cooler if he had gotten into zen and practice philosophy.
